About Lifespan Athlete

Hi, I'm Sean Hurlburt, physical therapist and founder of LifeSpan Athlete.

I created LifeSpan Athlete because I believe the needs of younger and older athletes differ only in degree—not in kind.

Research consistently shows that older adults benefit from many of the same strength and conditioning principles used by Olympians and collegiate athletes to build strength, improve bone health, and maintain physical independence as they age.

The problem is that most older adults never receive the guidance or confidence to train appropriately. In fact, most fail to meet even the minimum physical activity recommendations for general health.

Unfortunately, there is also widespread—and often unfounded—fear surrounding exercise, especially lifting weights, later in life. As a physical therapist, I've seen firsthand how muscle loss, weakness, and fear of movement gradually rob people of their physical autonomy.

My goal is to change that.
